Why Is My Case Not Loading?

Common Causes

If your case data is not loading, the most common causes are: (1) The application number format is incorrect. (2) The application is not yet published on USPTO PAIR. (3) USPTO PAIR is experiencing downtime.

Check the Application Number

Make sure you are using the correct format. Abigail accepts formats like 18/123,456 or 18123456. If you are using a patent number instead of an application number, try prepending it with the series code.

Unpublished Applications

Applications that have not been published (typically within 18 months of filing) may not have prosecution history available on USPTO PAIR. Abigail can only access documents that are publicly available through PAIR.

USPTO PAIR Downtime

Occasionally, USPTO PAIR experiences maintenance windows or outages. If you see timeout errors, wait 15 to 30 minutes and try again. You can check USPTO system status at status.uspto.gov.

Resync Documents

If your case loaded previously but is now showing missing documents, click the resync icon next to the Documents header on the case detail page. This triggers a fresh download from USPTO PAIR.
